Long enough to find a temporary place where the rent is too high, he knows, to be sustainable if he's living alone (and the neighbors are too quiet to give him the same feel as the cramped apartment complex full of young families he'd lived in back in California.)
Long enough to know where the laundromat is located, and the hospital, and to have filled out a job application to findd work as a nurse.
Long enough to know it smells different here than what he's used to. In a way that's really nice. Not that it smelled back in California, but new is different and different is almost always fun. Variety, spice of life, etc. He likes things spicy.
The foam on top of his drink is fancy and it's got a design in it that's so nice he barely wants to drink it, but not enough that he won't. He needs the caffeine. Moving is fucking hard, he refuses to suffer it without coffee. 'Hard' was never his forte. He prefers to flow.
He also prefers when he doesn't get coffee cup rings on his application for an auto loan because he's paying more attention to his internal monologue than on his surroundings.
"Shit," he says dimly, not self-aware enough to feel bad about cussing in the middle of a public coffee shop. "Shit. I can't turn this in. I'll have to get a new one. Shit. I guess this one was just for practice?"
He probably wouldn't have gotten the loan anyway. Don't car dealerships like it when you have an actual job before applying? But having a car makes jobbing easier. Life was hard.
